This New Jersey Gardener May Have Found The Easiest Way To Grow Potatoes

Get ready to grow a ton of potatoes the easy way with these tips from James!

growing potatoes at home

First things first, James and his cute dog Tuck will show you a trick for growing lots of potatoes without much work. James has been growing potatoes for a long time, so he knows what he’s talking about!

To start, make a small, raised bed (1 ft by 8 ft) using some old wood. Make sure it’s in a sunny spot. Then, put your seed potatoes right on top of the soil. You don’t even have to dig!

Here’s the cool part: Instead of burying the potatoes, just space them 6 inches apart on top of the soil. Then, cover them with 4-5 inches of homemade soil and some fertilizer. Easy peasy!

As the potato plants grow, keep adding soil around them. This helps the roots grow and gives you more potatoes to harvest. Plus, you don’t have to do any digging!

Growing potatoes in a raised bed is great because it saves water and makes taking care of them a breeze. The water stays in the bed, right where you want it.

One important thing to remember is to keep the growing potatoes covered with soil or mulch. This stops them from turning green and making a yucky substance called solanine.

Over the next few weeks, James will show you how the potato plants are growing and doing really well. It’s so exciting to watch them get bigger and bigger!

About a month after the plants die back, which means the potatoes are ready, James digs up a ton of potatoes from just an 8-square-foot area. Can you believe it? His planting method really works!

After harvesting, James stores the potatoes in crates with burlap inside. He puts the smaller potatoes in seedling trays so he can eat them sooner.

To wrap things up, James wants you to try this “lazy” way of growing potatoes yourself. It doesn’t matter if you don’t have a lot of space. He also shows some other cool stuff from his garden, like cherries, radishes, and pears.

So what are you waiting for? Get out there and start growing some amazing potatoes the easy way!
